In 1999 the American Physical Society (APS) celebrates its centenary. For the celebration, the Committee on the Status of Women in Physics and the Forum on the History of Physics co-sponsored compilation of this historical archive.
Funding has been provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Joan Palevsky, laboratories of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the University of California at Los Angeles, and the American Physical Society.

The CWP archive has been compiled by Nina Byers with the help of colleagues at UCLA and around the world. Major contributors have been Web designer and programmer Matthew Walker and successors Meigy Tsai and T. K. (Kenneth) Yung; Steering Committee members Steven A. Moszkowski and Frieda Stahl , the Field Editors, and Research Assistant Ben Johnson .
Colleagues at remote locations have been very helpful. In particular, major contributions to compilation of the database have been made by:
They are owed a debit of gratitude for the time and attention they have
given this archive.
At the end of each citation is the name of one or more
Field Editors. These Field Editors have checked the scientific content of the
citations for reliability and accuracy. They are distinguished physicists who
are or have been active in the field of physics in which the woman whose
citation they have edited worked.
All Field Editors have contributed their time and attention pro bono!
