  • Technical support, which was vital for this project, was generously provided by Ling Yu Xu and Craig Murayama of the UCLA Physics and Astronomy Department.

The project began in 1995 in preparation for the 1999 centenary celebration of the American Physical Society (APS). It was co-sponsored by the APS Committee on the Status of Women in Physics and the APS Forum on History of Physics. When it began no one imagined we would find so many women to write about. As many as we have written about here, there are many more whose accomplishments merit attention.
